Rob Kirkpatrick

I build software, write essays, and spend most weekends above 12,000 feet trying to convince myself the view was worth the suffering.

Currently
A live index of what’s open in my browser, my notebook, and my pack — updated when something changes, which is often.
Building

A small tool for keeping field notes in sync between phone and laptop, offline-first.

Quietly in the weeds with CRDTs and SwiftUI. If it ships, it ships. If it doesn’t, I’ll have learned a lot about timestamps.

Writing

A long essay on tempo — how good products and good climbs both depend on it.

Currently around 4,200 words and the conclusion is still ten paragraphs away from where it should be.

Wandering

Planning a slow traverse of the Sierra High Route this August — eight days, no fixed schedule.

Routes, resupply, weight. The math is easier than the part where you actually carry the bag.

Photographs
An iPhone in my pocket and not much patience for tripods. A full archive on the Photographs page.
